CBD Oil wouldn’t make you “High”
These days everyone is talking about the benefits of CBD, but there is also a lot of confusion. One of the biggest questions people have is, can CBD get you high? The other popular question is, are CBD and marijuana the same? The short answer to both questions is no. Let’s look deeper into what CBD is and why it does not get you high.
WHAT IS CBD?
Let’s start with a brief overview. CBD stands for cannabidiol, which are compounds that are extracted from the cannabis plant. It’s non-psychoactive properties make it a very popular choice among people looking for relief from a wide variety of problems. Some of these include:
- sleep disorders
Research has shown that CBD also can potentially help serious conditions like diabetes, arthritis, MS, PTSD, depression, epilepsy, alcoholism, chronic pain, and many more.
The difference between marijuana and hemp.
There has been almost 100 years of misinformation out there about the cannabis plant. Cannabis is a family of plants. Both marijuana and hemp are classified as members of the Cannabis Sativa family, and have many similarities. However, they have different biological structures and therefore are completely different plants.
Cannabis plants contain compounds called Cannabinoids. Two of the most dominant and useful are THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, and CBD, or Cannabidiol. THC has psychoactive properties that leads to the user feeling “high”. CBD has no psychoactive properties. The main thing to remember is that they are two completely different and separate compounds.
Did you know George Washington grew hemp? He, along with other colonial settlers, knew about the incredible variety of uses for the hemp plant. These include making paper, clothing, biofuel, food, and building materials. It also produces the oil which is used to product THC-free CBD products. The many benefits of hemp, from the fact that it is a renewable resource, to the excellent physical properties of hemp fiber, are getting renewed worldwide attention.
The anatomy of marijuana vs. hemp
The two plants even look distinctly different. The hemp plant has skinny leaves concentrated towards the top of the plant. It also grows much taller and skinnier. The marijuana plant, by comparison, has dense buds and broad leaves. It has a shorter, more bushier appearance. These plants may be cousins, and they may look similar to the untrained eye, but they are very different.
CBD does not get you high.
The hemp plant, where most CBD oil is derived from, has almost no THC, less than .3%. Marijuana has a high concentration of THC, usually between 15 and 40%. Remember, these are compounds that are extracted from the plants. The CBD from hemp does not contain any THC, therefore it is impossible to become high or “stoned” from CBD products. This is why they are available to everyone without a prescription.
Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Oil
You can also get full spectrum hemp CBD oil, which also does not get you high. It contains cannabinoids as well as vitamins like B Complex, A, E, and C, minerals such as zinc and phosphorus, and plant terpenes. Since full spectrum CBD oil is also derived from the hemp plant, it has none of the psychoactive effects of THC.
Now you know that because of the very distinct differences between the hemp plant and the marijuana plant, CBD does not have the psychoactive properties that give you a “high” feeling. While CBD does not get you high, it can combat stress. Read more about how using CBD for stress relief here. If you have any questions about CBD, don’t hesitate to contact our professional staff.
