What Do Doctors Say About CBD?

It wasn’t so long ago that marijuana, even for medical use, was unlawful in every single US state. Today, CBD products may be purchased and consumed by adults from coast to coast without fear of legal reprisal. The evolution of cannabis laws comes as great news to people who believe that CBD tinctures and other cannabidiol products improve their health and happiness. Medicinal users aren’t the only ones touting the benefits of CBD hemp oil, however. In fact, medical doctors have a lot of good things to say about CBD.

CBD for anxiety

New York University psychiatrist and researcher, Dr. Esther Blessing, is hopeful that clinical trials will prove what she calls “good evidence” that cannabidiol oil has a positive effect on anxiety. Referring to a 2011 National Institutes of Health (NIH) study that examined the effects of CBD on two dozen subjects with diagnosed Social Anxiety Disorder, or SAD, Blessing said:

“People who took CBD reported significantly less anxiety. It’s really interesting.”

Currently, Dr. Blessing is putting together a study that will take a clinical look at the effects of treatment with cannabidiol products on volunteers who have coexisting conditions of PTSD and alcohol use disorder.

Calming effects minus the buzz

For years, people assumed that psychoactive ingredients such as THC were what makes cannabis a viable stress reliever. Sure, many people use inhaled herb for that reason, but now it is understood that hemp-derived CBD can calm the mind without delivering any sort of “high.”

University of Michigan anesthesiology professor, Daniel Clauw, MD explains:

“It (CBD) seems to have sort of a calming effect on the brain, although the precise mechanism by which it exerts these effects is not really well understood. I do recommend that patients try CBD first without THC.”

CBD anti-aging products

Los Angeles dermatologist, Dr. Tsippora Shainhouse, says that applying CBD to facial skin before smearing on sunscreen captures skin-aging free radicals that may elude sun blocker. Dr. Shainhouse credits the robust antioxidant properties of hemp CBD skin care products and their ability to “prevent and undo damage” caused by free radicals and sun exposure.

Naturopathic physician, Dr. Olivia Rose, agrees with Dr. Shainhouse’s estimation that hemp CBD beauty products, including CBD anti-wrinkle creams and topical hemp oil, can work wonders to restrict the visible signs of aging. These well-respected Southern California doctors concur that cannabidiol oils provide plentiful supplies of the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids along with gamma linoleic acid (GLA) to hydrate skin and lessen wrinkles and sun spots.

“These fatty acids are crucial in retaining skin moisture, which helps skin stay looking fresh and firm.”

CBD for pain relief

Neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory CBD can be applied topically to relieve muscle soreness, joint pain, and other painful conditions. Cannabidiol may also be eaten. AMMPA member, Dr. Shivani Amin, explained in Forbes magazine that topical or ingested CBD may be safely used by anyone to alleviate everything from arthritis to acne. Dr. Amin notes that he typically starts a patient on a relatively small dose of 15 mg of cannabidiol. When patients come to Dr. Amin for pain treatment, the doctor recommends CBD treatment in the form of tincture, cbd softgel capsules, or other forms of edibles.
