Evaluating Against CBDBoth CBD and CBG have been proven to be nonintoxicating. This means they produce no high and have no hallucinogenic properties. Both chemicals also interact with the same receptors, according to various studies, and both can reduce inflammation through frequent use. Those with chronic inflammation should try both CBD and/or CBG to see which best helps reduce their symptoms. Though both chemicals are similar, CBG does offer different functions and health benefits than CBD. However, these results are preliminary, as limited research has been done on the health properties and benefits of CBG. As the chemical grows in popularity, more research and studies will be done to determine exact health benefits on an individualized level.
Benefits of CBGThere are several benefits to u sing CBG as opposed to another type of cannabinoid. First, CBG greatly reduces the risk of inflammatory bowel disease thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. CBG has also been found to effectively treat glaucoma because the chemical reduces intraocular pressure. Bladder dysfunctions have also been reduced in those taking CBG because the cannabinoid affects contractions. One study showed CBG as being the most effective in treating bladder irregularities. CBG can also protect against bacterial infections; a study from 2008 demonstrated that CBG kills bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, a type of bacteria which is resistant to methicillin and cause drug-resistant staph infections. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of CBG is its effect on some cancers and Huntington’s disease. The chemical is neuroprotective, meaning it can help slow or prevent neurodegenerative conditions, as shown by a study on mice with the disease. It can also reduce the growth of cancer cells and tumors, especially in the colon.
Side Effects and Interactions of CBGUnfortunately, there’s very little research to indicate side effects of CBG. The only conclusive evidence suggests that CBG oil and other forms of the chemical have, so far, been well tolerated by rats. Research is being conducted daily in an attempt to discover other side effects, but the results have yet to materialize. The same is true when considering interactions CBG might have with other medications. Over-the-counter prescriptions, vitamins, and supplements have not been thoroughly researched as of yet, and it’s up to the individual to check with their healthcare provider on potential problems that could arise. However, there have been dangers linked to medications which contain “grapefruit warnings.” These can be found on medications like:
- Antibiotics and antimicrobials
- Anticancer medications
- Antiepileptic drugs
- Blood pressure medications
- Blood thinners
- Cholesterol medications
- Erectile dysfunction medications
Choosing the Correct Product
You can buy CBD online and buy CBG online, but it’s important to due thorough research when purchasing CBG in any form, as finding the right oil can be difficult and the product is currently not regulated by the FDA. You have a choice between many different types of CBD oil distributors; for instance, full-spectrum CBD possess a small number of cannabinoids and are much easier to find that CBG-exclusive products.
When you buy your product, be sure to check for 3rd party testing. CBG companies should test their products with an independent lab; these third-party tests ensure quality and safety with each product.
