Good hygiene, like consistent hand washing, is essential to prevent the spread of all viruses. The CDC recommends to wash your hands frequently with water and soap for a minimum of 20 seconds or the time it takes to recite the “Happy Birthday” song.

You can also create your own 20-30 second chant. This can be a dual-purpose phrase that represents a soothing meditation as well. Something like; I am strong, I will survive, I will emerge a better person. Repeat the phrase approximately 5 times and, ta-da, you have accomplished two tasks at once. First, you have cleansed your hands while at the same time practiced a meditation session. Meditating in uncertain times is a useful tool to calm and relax the mind.

If you are not able to access soap and water, then you will need to use a product that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Empty Shelves

If you’ve been shopping lately, you’ve probably become aware that some people are panic shopping. As a result, some commonly used items are in short supply. Things like bleach, antibacterial soaps even toilet tissue are disappearing from the shelves faster than retailers can restock. Hand sanitizer has become a hot commodity, and shoppers are finding it hard to locate. But don’t despair, you can make your own.

Making Hand Sanitizer

The necessary ingredients are one-part aloe gel to two parts isopropyl alcohol.

The following recipe makes about 3 fluid ounces:

4 Tbsp 70% isopropyl alcohol

2 Tbsp aloe vera gel

½ Tsp vegetable glycerin or Vitamin E oil (optional)

20 drops tea tree oil (optional)

10 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

3 droppers full of 1000mg CBD oil

Combine all ingredients and store in a small bottle. To use, completely cover your hands, back and front and rub together until it dries.

CBD and the Entourage Effect

Advantages of CBD Oil

Cannabidiol or CBD for short, has been reported at the American Society for Microbiology annual meeting to be active against gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. CBD was shown to have a similar potency to currently used antibiotics, such as daptomycin and vancomycin.

While limited data does suggest that CBD can kill bacteria, there is not enough research to indicate its use as an antibiotic. To read the entire report, click here.

CBD oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to balance oil production in the skin. So, it is the perfect addition to your hand sanitizer as it can help soothe and calm dry, irritated skin.
