What is ECS?
Cannabis and CBD produce therapeutic results because of something called the endocannabinoid system or ECS. The ECS discovery happened as a result of research conducted in the 1980s. The study was commissioned to determine why cannabis aids in relieving symptoms of so many ailments.
The ECS consists of endocannabinoids or small endogenous molecules found throughout the bodies of all mammals including human beings.
Homeostasis or balance represents the primary function of the ECS. The ECS achieves balance at the cellular level by stimulating the appropriate C1 or C2 receptors. The C1 receptors are found in the brain, blood muscles, and reproductive system. The C2 receptors are located mostly in the digestive system and spleen.
The ECS represents the ultimate tool for the body healing itself, but factors such as poor lifestyle choices and inherited diseases, especially autoimmune disorders may disrupt the ECS.
How cannabis works with the ECS
Phytocannabinoid represents the system in the cannabis plant which mimics the ECS. Phytocannabinoid protects the plant from outside influences and when cannabis extracts are administered medicinally to humans and other mammals it assists the ECS in functioning properly. The ability to construct a remedy using tailored strains of cannabis makes using cannabis medicinally all the more productive.
The body’s largest organ, the skin responds quickly and efficiently to CBD oil and CBD topical applications. The cellular receptors of the outer layer of the skin receive the CBD which provides relief for conditions such as:
- Muscle pain
- Joint pain
- Autoimmune symptoms
Additionally, CBD delivers relief to external skin conditions such as acne and eczema. It also may improve the appearance of skin and encourage a youthful appearance. CBD contributes to healthy looking skin because it contains:
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Pain relieving properties
Besides the healing elements of the CBD compound, hemp also contains essential nutrients for the skin such as Vitamins A, C, and E and essential fatty acids or EFAs.
Taking CBD orally for your skin
Of course, what we put into our bodies eventually shows up on the outside. Fatty and sugary foods prove difficult for the liver to process and wreak havoc on the digestive system. This disruption may produce a blotchy uneven complexion and even acne.
CBD oil and other products may help offset bad dietary practices, but work even better when added to a healthy lifestyle including proper diet and adequate exercise.
Again, taken orally, the CBD works with the ECS in aiding digestion and reducing inflammation.
