CBD for acne
The irritating skin condition known as acne is a problem that is largely associated with puberty, but in fact, acne can occur throughout a person’s life. Recently, as the health benefits of CBD have been discovered, it has been found that CBD can help with acne. CBD for acne also has a benefit over prescription medications because it only targets cells that are having problems. It leave the healthy cells alone. This means you won’t have nasty side-effects from the prescription like dry, flaky skin or irritations.
What is acne?
Everyone is familiar with the physical effects of acne. It is a skin condition in which pimples, whitehead, or blackhead appear on someone’s body, usually on the face, neck, chest, upper arms, and back. It involves the oil glands which are at the base of the hair follicles in our skin. But did you know that acne is an inflammatory condition?
CBD’s Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Our skin contains many glands and hair follicles with contain CB1 and CB2 receptors. These are natural receptors in the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. They help our nervous system communicate with the rest of our bodies, and have many different effects. One of these effects is reducing inflammation. Since one of the causes of acne is inflammation, CBD can have a positive and soothing effect on the skin. It calms down acne outbreaks, and helps prevent future acne.
The Endocannabinoid System
We have a system of receptors throughout our bodies called the endocannabinoid system. They are found throughout the body, in our bones, digestive tract, organs, and skin. CBD activates this system, which is our body’s master regulatory system. This is why CBD has such a beneficial effect. Within the endocannabinoid system, or ECS, there is a neurological transmitter called anandamide. This regulates cell growth. It can have a negative impact on the skin when it is out of balance.
