How Does CBD Help Control Obesity

In the United States, over two-thirds of the adult population is overweight and half of those individuals are considered obese.  You are obese if you have a body mass index (BMI) of 30% or over. There are tests to determine your BMI but also calculated by weight divided by your inches squared and times by 703.

The fundamental cause of obesity is taking in more calories than you burn, but it is a bit more complicated than that. Other factors play a part in unwanted weight gain such as genetics, environment, social standing, behavioral concerns, and, above all, stress.

Overweight and obese people are not only at higher risk for depression and other mental health issues, but also many physical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and high blood pressure.

There are an infinite number of programs and medications to treat obesity and the conditions which result from the excess weight. Many of the programs and drugs recommended are expensive or come with unpleasant and even dangerous side-effects.

Cannabis or medical marijuana is gaining popularity for easing symptoms and conditions caused by obesity and even battling obesity itself. Of course, some people think smoking marijuana leads to reaching for the Fritos and ordering a large pizza, but that is an accurate stereotype.

Studies show that people who use marijuana habitually but in moderation have lower BMIs. In fact, male users have a BMI of 2.7% lower than non-users and females 3.1% lower.

Cannabis and CBD hemp oil products work through something called the endocannabinoid system or ECS. The ECS is a series of molecules which run throughout the body and promote balance or homeostasis. Cannabis works with the ECS through the cellular level by penetrating C1 or C2 receptors.

Since the ECS promotes homeostasis, ingesting the medical marijuana or cannabis targets the area or system which needs healing. The ECS is why cannabis helps control diabetes and insulin levels and other ailments such as high cholesterol and blood pressure problems.

With the correct combination of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC or CBDs, medical marijuana helps achieve balance and controls stress by reducing the production of cortisol. Cortisol adversely affects quality sleep and significantly slows down metabolism. Using CBD oil for sleep and CBD products for anxiety may also assist with homeostasis and weight control.

Of course, using CBD hemp oil drops or CBD hemp oil products in any form will not help one achieve an ideal weight alone. Proper diet and exercise along with appetite control products alsopromote an appropriate balance and a healthier weight.
