Does My Child Need Anxiety Medicine?
Nowadays stress is becoming more prevalent for children. According to Science Daily, “More than 1 in 20 US children and teens have anxiety or depression.” Although, this is unfortunate, it is, in fact, a reality. Anxiety is a normal part of childhood, and typically most children will go through phases of anxiety. Temporary phases are usually harmless, however, children who suffer from an anxiety disorder experience nervousness, fear, withdrawal and shyness. In order to put an end to this vicious and dangerous cycle it is imperative to stop the anxiety before it gets out of hand. But what can you do?
Be Careful with Prescription Medications
All too often when kids have anxiety, doctors are quick to offer a solution in the way of pharmaceutical drugs. While this may seem like a good idea, there are many dangers in this and it may not always be the best way to go. Often times these drugs may be doing more harm than good. Medical doctors typically prescribe some type of medication belonging to the family of Benzodiazepines for anxiety. Research has shown the damaging effects that Benzodiazepines may have including “the risk of addiction, withdrawal, cognitive decline, motor vehicle crashes, and hip fracture” according to American Family Physician.
CBD Oil for Anxiety in Kids
There is another alternative, a safer alternative. Pure hemp CBD oil has been shown to be an effective method for treating anxiety in adults, pets and kids! CBD has been documented as being an effective alternative to pharmaceutical medications according to a study published in the National Institute for Health. According to the study “These symptoms were present in our patient, a ten-year-old girl who was sexually abused and had minimal parental supervision as a young child under the age of five. Pharmaceutical medications provided partial relief, but results were not long-lasting, and there were major side effects. A trial of cannabidiol oil resulted in a maintained decrease in anxiety and a steady improvement in the quality and quantity of the patient’s sleep.”
