What is CBD Hemp Oil?
Many assume it is simply marijuana that will get you high, but that is not totally accurate. It goes a bit deeper than that. CBD is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients in marijuana, and if derived from the hemp plant, it contains less than 0.3% THC — and despite it’s significant presence in cannabis, it will not get you high. Take it from the World Health Organization, who state, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
How can CBD Hemp Oil Benefit my Pet?
Look no further than to a recent study headed by Dr. Joseph J. Wakshlag, an associate professor, as well as the Section Chief of Nutrition at prestigious Cornell University, on dogs suffering with osteoarthritis.
This pharmacokinetics, and clinical study completed at Cornell asserts that up to 2 mg/kg of cannabidiol oil twice a day can help increase comfort and activity in dogs with osteoarthritis, allowing them to help manage their symptoms effectively.
The team tested two different doses of CBD oil — 2 mg/kg and 8 mg/k. The group determined that the elimination half-life to be 4.2 hours at both doses after 4 weeks of study, and concluded that the results seemed to support CBD treatment for dogs positively. A veterinary assessment showed that CBD oil reduced pain, and the Canine Brief Pain Inventory, as well as Hudson activity scores, showed significant reduction –clinically — in pain and an increase in activity with CBD treatment, according to the abstract.
Other than alkaline phosphatase activity increasing, no negative side-effects of note were found.
And as of right now, according to Dr. Wakshlag, his team is also working on a pharmacokinetic study in cats, as well as developing plans for future studies on the effects of CBD oil in behavior management, pain management, and feline pain.
Is this Legal?
This is a very common question. CBD hemp oil products from CBD hemp oil drops, CBD skin care products, CBD products for anxiety, or CBD anti aging cream, none of this is possible without proper laws being enacted. Luckily, all 50 states have followed the ‘legalize it!’ motto of late and done just that regarding cannabis. But how about for our pet dogs, for example? Luckily, strides have been made there as well. Though the understanding of the legal issues tend to still be a bit confusing, CBS has been removed from the controlled substances list since 2015, thanks to the Hemp Farming Act. CBD consumables, CBD wellness products, CBD oil for pets, and various CBD products online can be found with relative ease and legally purchased.
